Built for Kiwi trade apprentices
The #1 logbook app designed exclusively for New Zealand apprentices. Voice-to-text technology turns daily site activities into BCITO-compliant entries in 30 seconds — across construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and automotive trades.
Measurable outcomes that transformed ApprenticeLog's business.
NZ apprentices have to keep daily logbooks for BCITO sign-off — what they did, what they used, what skills they demonstrated. The reality on a construction site is hands covered in concrete and a phone in a pocket; written logs get skipped, then back-filled badly, then rejected. The status quo was so painful that the actual process — typing entries by hand at the end of a 10-hour day — was the bottleneck, not the work itself.
We built a voice-first mobile app where an apprentice taps a button, speaks a 30-second summary of what they did, and the app generates a structured, BCITO-compliant entry — formatted with task descriptions, hours, tools, and skills demonstrated. Works offline so the on-site reality doesn't break the flow. Employers and training providers see clean, consistent logs in real time; apprentices stop dreading the paperwork.
How we approached this project to deliver exceptional results.
Designed for the actual context — site noise, dirty hands, intermittent signal — not the office
Built the speech recognition pipeline tuned for trade terminology (rebar, conduit, framing, RCD, etc.)
Structured the output to match BCITO documentation standards directly — not a generic note that has to be reformatted later
Made it offline-first so the app captures entries even when there's no signal on site
Built employer and training-provider dashboards for real-time visibility into apprentice progress
Free for NZ apprentices — funded by the employer/provider tier
Key screens and features from the final product.
Marketing site — built around the trades, not generic SaaS
Mobile-first — phone in pocket, voice on site
